In recent years, there have been different researches about human evolution, but it has been a long time since the last Homo genus was found.

It was in 2013 when paleoanthropologist Lee Berger and his team found a mysterious hominin inside a fossil-filled cavern in the Rising Star Cavei n South Africa. They could not imagine that the more than 1550 fossils described, represent human´s most ancient ancestors known to date.

Although the fossils are still undated, they already reveal their antiquity due to their morphological caracteristics. This ancient individual shows a combination of australopitecus and hominins qualities. For instance, a globular skull reveals it is a member of our genus Homo, but the small and primitive brain lets us know about its antiquity. Their shoulder and fingers show they still climbed trees, being another characteristic of primitive hominins.

After recording all its morphological aspect, they named it Homo naledi , which means star man in Latin and the Sotho language.

This discovery is essential to understand where we come from and how our evolution has developed over the years. Still there is a lot of work to be done so that we can be able to understand how we have arrived at this point in the evolution and of course in history.
